Gilded Elegance at the Fairmont Copley Plaza

Over the past few years we’ve used our creative minds to produce some amazing holiday parties in the Fairmont Copley Plaza’s Grand Ballroom (Winter Wonderland and Visions of Sugar Plums).  This year was no exception!  Guests arrived to an elegant and festive affair, achieved with a glistening gold and warm teal color scheme.

Communal tables featured a warm candle-scape with an eclectic array of gilded elements including faux bonsai trees and antlers.  Cranberry florals in geometric gold vessels decorated the remaining tables which were draped in sumptuous, textured linens.

Two soft seating areas on opposite sides of the ballroom afforded guests the opportunity to mingle comfortably throughout the evening.  Both were styled with teal and gold tufted furniture and potted palms, however each featured it’s own unique twist.  A custom mirror wall behind one made guests feel as if they were in a kitschy living room!   The other was accented by an over-sized chandelier projection that echoed the ornate chandeliers hanging around the perimeter of the ballroom.

The focal points of the room were two baby grand pianos where pianists “dueled” throughout the night, turning the ballroom into an energetic piano bar.  Gold pedestals topped with candelabras  flanked the pianos and flickered softly throughout the night, adding to the room’s already warm ambiance.  Guests spent the evening requesting songs and singing along to the upbeat tunes!

A Fresh Take on the Holidays

Last year at Happy’s we learned that the recipe for one client’s ideal holiday party was the combination of an open floor plan, funky decor and a few fun enhancements.  As they say; “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”  This year, we decided to stick with this winning combo but head to a different venue.  With it’s muted color palate, unique design elements, and amazing menu, Island Creek Oyster Bar fit the bill!

The decor at ICOB is simple and fresh – think granite countertops, white washed chairs and gleaming hardwood tables.  It’s beautiful but it doesn’t particularly scream “holiday” so we added a few custom touches to make the space look more festive.  Dainty white tulip centerpieces with red berry sprig accents sat atop guest tables while a copious amount of candlelight warmed up the room.  Red up-lighting turned the already eye-catching Gabion cage wall into a major focal point.  It’s hard to tell but these cages are filled with tens of thousands of oyster shells.  The massive wall took eight months for ICOB to complete!

Guests enjoyed an abundance of delicious seafood, including the famous Island Creek Oyster, and a few other equally appetizing, less fishy treats.  A DJ kept guests on their feet while a photobooth and pool or foosball table offered additional entertainment, making guests reluctant to head home as the evening came to an end.  We’ve definitely found the “sweet spot” for this group!
