Boston’s Adult Playground

Tuesday, September 1st, 2015

Massachusetts Convention Center Authority

Adults (and kids) of Boston officially have a new playground!  Lawn on D, which opened last August, provides a “next-generation park” to Bostonians and visitors.  This three-acre lot adjacent to the BCEC hosts weekly live music performances, art installations and lawn games in an effort to bolster civic engagement and foster creativity in South Boston.  Boy, have they been successful!  The outdoor space can fit 3,000 guests for events from Spring through Fall and has definitely been a popular destination.

With only 21 days left of Summer, Lawn on D is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the last few weeks of warm weather.  The space hosts a rotating list of Boston’s best food trucks on a weekly basis, offers Friday “lunch breaks” featuring Berklee College musicians and recently launched “Sport’s Sundays”, where visitors can cheer on the Red Sox under The Tent!  The venue also presents a wide array of signature events designed to entertain and delight.  This fall, locals can attend a music festival, kids day or pumpkin fest – all for free!

The Lawn on D is open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily through early October.  For more information or to plan your visit, head to http://lawnond.com/!

About Town: Art on the Greenway

Tuesday, August 11th, 2015

On a beautiful Spring, Summer or Fall day we consider ourselves quite fortunate to have the Rose Kennedy Greenway just steps away from our office.  The result of Boston’s infamous “Big Dig” and more than a decade of planning and construction, the Greenway is a mile and a half of contemporary parks in the heart of Boston that connect people in the city with beauty and fun.  Besides the plethora of parks and variety of food trucks, one of our favorite things about the Greenway is the abundance of art.  From sculptures to murals the innovative and contemporary exhibits are constantly changing and always a treat to take in.  Best of all, they are free!

One of our favorite instillation’s is the monumental sculpture hovering hundreds of feet above (you read that right) the Greenway.  ”As If It Were Already Here” from internationally renowned local artist, Janet Echelman, is a must see in our opinion.  The soft, billowing sculpture is designed to respond to the forces of nature – wind, water and light.  The piece is mesmerizing during the day but when lit at night creates a particularly powerful impact.  Although the exhibit is temporary, you have till early October to sit beneath the knotted fiber sculpture and admire it’s whimsy!

This past June, the Greenway unveiled their newest public installation in the Chinatown section of the park.  Located just around the corner from our office we love seeing these cute, paper sheep on our way to and from the train.  Did you know 2015 is the Year of the Sheep?  ”Wandering Sheep” is the first in a series of animal exhibits based on the Chinese zodiac and in 2016 the exhibit will feature monkeys!  The new art in the Southern area of the park is a great way to connect this sometimes forgotten end to the rest of the Greenway.

Last, but certainly not least, is the 70 x 76 foot Shinique Smith mural in Dewey Square.  Installed in September 2014, “Seven Moon Junction” will be on display through August 2015 – so catch it before it’s gone!  Inspired by the intersection where the mural resides, the merging of people and the joining of art and life, Smith’s mural is centered by a constellation of fabrics patterned with bursting fireworks and flowers.  We love grabbing a bite to eat at a nearby food truck and basking in the sun beneath this larger than life piece, but can’t wait to see the what’s on deck for September!

Whether it’s a long walk down the Greenway on a perfect Saturday or a 10 minute break from the office we urge you to catch these unique exhibitions before they are gone and while the sun is still shining.  As much as we hate do admit it, we’ll be buried in snow and huddled indoors before we know it!

A Morning with Martha

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

Martha Stewart Shiza Shahid BCEC

Last month, Jill had the opportunity to attend the final keynote address at Hubspot’s INBOUND Conference held at the Boston Convention and Exhibit Center.  The week was dedicated to providing guests with the inspiration, education, and connections they need to transform their businesses.  Jill, a self-proclaimed geek, is constantly trying to draw lines from experiences back to how she can help run CE better and smarter – or simply garner ideas for inventive events.

Shiza Shahid opened the session pitching Charity Water, a non-profit organization on a mission to bring clean drinking water to every person on the planet.  Her main point was that where passion, purpose, and skill collide – magic can happen.  After having a “drought of purpose” in her life, Shahid traveled to Africa where she learned about the work of Charity Water.  Shahid shared moving stories of her travels and had the audience of over 2,000 attendees fully engaged.  Using her personal and business connections, Shahid took Charity Water’s mission to heart and raised money to drill several wells that would help hundreds of people gain access to water for their lifetime.  Her talk was truly inspiring!  On a personal level, Jill found that Shahid put into words how she feels about Corinthian Events.  Our office is fueled by passion for amazing events and serving our clients.  Hospitality courses through our veins, giving us purpose to serve the guests at our events an amazing experience.  We also have skills that are finely honed through years of collaborative experience with the finest vendors in the industry in Boston.  Passion, purpose, and skill truly collide at Corinthian Events!

Next up to speak was the MacGyver of the homemaking world, Martha Stewart!  The iconic magnate of home entertaining told the story of how the Martha Stewart brand grew organically over time.  Success came from doing something she loved and hiring like-minded people with a similar desire to reach and learn something new every day.  Again, this rang true!  At Corinthian Events, we get to do things we love each and every day for great people.  We are in event planning to produce wonderful experiences for people.  Whether a business event, non-profit gala or fun incentive trip, what we do is both the frosting on the cake and the dowels that hold that cake up.  The details that happen behind the scenes are what make us tick.  Trust us, of course we love to see a finished product, but a polished, tight show that no one really notices (because there was only excellence to see) is what it is all about!

Our Day on Instagram – The CE Summer Outing

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

We spend all summer planning your summer outings, so it seems only fair that we get one day to forget about work and celebrate the season!  Last month, Corinthian Events took to the streets and explored some of our favorite parts of Boston before enjoying a delicious dinner at Sweet Cheeks.  From donuts and champagne on the way to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to a segway tour of Boston’s waterfront (with only one minor accident!), we basked in the 90 degree weather and learned bits of trivia (courtesy of our in house historian, Jill) about our beloved city.  Of course, we took to Instagram to document our fantastic day and share our fun.  Here’s our day on Instagram!
