CE Turns 15 Partners

Founded in March of 2000, Corinthian Events has been planning memorable events in Boston and New England for 15 years.  Of course, in true CE fashion, we had to celebrate!

Last weekend friends, family and the CE team headed down to the Hotel Viking in Newport, RI for an epic bash hosted by Courtney, Jill and Mary.  Decked out in our finest duds, we danced, toasted and reminisced!

Following dinner, we ushered the whole party into another room for a champagne toast and a surprise! Courtney, Jill and Mary had no idea that the CE team had been working with friends, family, vendors and clients to put together a 15th anniversary video.  There were plenty of laughs (and tears!) as people from CE’s past and present expressed their congratulations.

After a touching tribute, it was back to the ballroom for more dancing and fun in the photo booth.  With such a fun team, it’s a wonder we get any work done!

Our Day on Instagram – The CE Summer Outing

Thursday, September 11th, 2014

We spend all summer planning your summer outings, so it seems only fair that we get one day to forget about work and celebrate the season!  Last month, Corinthian Events took to the streets and explored some of our favorite parts of Boston before enjoying a delicious dinner at Sweet Cheeks.  From donuts and champagne on the way to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to a segway tour of Boston’s waterfront (with only one minor accident!), we basked in the 90 degree weather and learned bits of trivia (courtesy of our in house historian, Jill) about our beloved city.  Of course, we took to Instagram to document our fantastic day and share our fun.  Here’s our day on Instagram!

SOWA BONA MPI!

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013

I see you.  Do you see me?

For MGM Resorts, this African greeting illustrates the true meaning of hospitality: acknowledging every human, regardless of physical appearance, with respect and care.  This mantra, which guides the training of their 60,000 worldwide employees, was front and center at the recent Meeting Professionals International (MPI) World Education Congress at the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas.  Courtney and Elizabeth had the opportunity to experience a snippet of this training as part of the conference’s theme of TRANSFORMATION, as the entire crowd was moved to tears with exposed challenges and stories of adversity.  And all this, no less than 5 minutes after keynote speaker and TED fellow, Candy Chang, shared her incredible story of vision, art, and transformation in communities around the world.  A powerful way to kick off an amazing 3 days of education, networking and fun!

Courtney and Elizabeth ran from one chilly ballroom to another, soaking up information and engaging with colleagues and meeting professionals from around the country.  Sessions touched on everything from sustainability to risk mitigation and from strategic meeting management to contracting.  They learned about the importance of understanding bandwidth usage, and even to have a song for all of your personal entrances.

They also had the opportunity to participate in an awesome corporate social responsibility teambuilding activity.  In teams of six, attendees constructed 250 prosthetic hands that will be distributed to amputees in 65 developing countries.  This initiative allowed groups to explore their strengths and leverage their limitations, in order to successfully construct these prosthetic hands.  What a powerful teambuilding activity!

With everyone safely back on the East Coast, our team is reflecting on this new information, our common experiences, and current trends – we can’t wait to share what we learn with our clients and vendors!

Oh, and of course, they enjoyed a party or two!

Hot Tip: Beware of Hidden Fees!

Friday, April 26th, 2013

If you think that everything comes at face value in the world of event planning then think again! Today’s buyer beware-esque tip is about hidden fees.  If you are planning your own event, dinner party or wedding, you want to be sure to ask all the right questions.  Depending on the venue there are a whole host of costs that are not necessarily quoted up front to the planner.

  • The most common hidden costs are administrative fees that get tacked on top of a quoted food and beverage minimum at restaurants and hotels.  Sometimes this cost is taxable and other times it is not depending on if it’s a gratuity, commission, or service fee.
  • When you’re dealing with artwork and printing there are often set-up costs in addition to the actual printing that must be calculated into the overall budget.
  • If you’re hiring entertainment, there may not be a hidden cost per-se, but best practices would certainly require that you for paying for their parking and a meal at the very least.
  • If you’re required to get a permit for parking, liquor, entertainment or other, there will certainly be permit fees associated.

While these costs often seem insignificant one by one, they can certainly add-up together to a whole new total.  So plan easy, and just ask if there are any added fees!
